Our adviser, Prof. Soo-hyun Lee, PhD, and our Co-Programme Director, Leonard Luk, recently participated in the Asian Law & Society Association (ALSA) annual conference 2024 themed “Whose Law, Whose Voices? Constructing Legal Stories in Asia,” held at Sungkyunkwan University in Seoul, Korea, from December 13 to 14, 2024.
During the event, Prof. Lee delivered a compelling presentation on the topic "Evolving Governance of Private Sector Finance for Sustainable Development within the UN System" as part of the Panel Session titled "Transplants to Innovation: Legal and Governance Shifts."
The conference attracted diverse participants, including lawyers, scholars, and policymakers from across the Asia-Pacific region. Notable attendees hailed from countries such as Japan, South Korea, China, and Malaysia. This diversity enriched the discussions and fostered a dynamic exchange of ideas on pressing legal issues.
ALSA's exploration of how legal narratives interact with global issues such as environmental protection and social change aligns with APAC Focus's dedication to advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The conference provides a forum for discussing how legal frameworks can support sustainable practices across Asia, a core focus of APAC Focus's initiatives. By participating in such dialogues, our APAC Focus members would be allowed to contribute to a broader understanding of how legal systems can facilitate sustainable development in the region.
ALSA, headquartered at Waseda University in Japan, was founded in 2015 to promote scholarly research and engage the wider research community. At this pivotal juncture, ALSA is poised to shape the Asian law and society landscape into a dynamic and cohesive discipline.
